Evelyn Silverman (1926-1999) loved flowers and was a great art afficianado. As a tribute to her, I began work on a floral project in 2004. Inspired by the great Canadian photographer, Freeman Patterson, I began experimenting with multiple exposure photographs on film. Some of the images I created involved as many as 16 exposures on the same piece of film to give the flowers a dream-like or Monet-ish quality. After migrating to digital media, I began using a novelty lens called a Lens Baby to distort images, not only mirroring the multiple exposure technique, but opening up many new opportunities to illustrate flowers.
Most of these flowers were shot in public and private gardens as well as in my studio. Most recently, I have tried to spend more time at the Minnesota Arboretum in the southwestern Minneapolis suburbs.
Once this project develops better definition, I plan on publishing a book. The images are currently available for purchase. Enlargements are spectacular with some as large as 60 inches wide.
